NOCA's participation in India International Sugarcon 2011

Natural Organic Certification Association (NOCA) has participated in India International Sugarcon 2011 Conference as Knowledge partner with Indian Chamber of Commerce. Major investors such as Mr. Vivek M. Pitti (M.D. Harinagar Sugar Mills ltd), Mr. O. P. Dhanuka (Chairman Riga Sugar Ltd.), Mr. H. D. Hota (C.E.O. HPCL Bio Fuels Ltd.) and others attended the two day conference held at Hotel Mourya on 12th September and 13th September 2011.

Two days exhibition was a major attraction of the Sugarcon Confrernce. Along with NOCA, more than 50 exhibitors had participated in the exhibition. NOCA had installed its stall at the entrance on the left hand side of the exhibition hall. More than 300 delegates visited NOCA's stall and appreciated ongoing work progress for the certification of selected Tal and Diara areas. Bihar State Sugarcane industries Minister Mr. A.P. Kushwaha visited the stall and shared his valuable thoughts about the organic certification with Mr. Harshal Jain. Dr. Jay Sakle, Certification Manager, NOCA delivered the presentation on Prospective of organic sugarcane cultivation in the state of Bihar. The Bihar state government aimed at promoting private investment in the sugar industry sector. The government is initiating the process for inviting a tender for conducting bids to lease out the nine state owned sugar mills. Mr. C.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary of the department said: 'Bihar future's lies in the sugar industry. The problem is of low productivity and the farmers shall be now provided with latest tools and techniques for sugarcane production'. The organic farming of sugarcane may boost the production.

According to records about 200 ha of land in West Champaran district is under process of organic sugarcane certification. NOCA is major certification agency in India to certify the organic sugarcane farms. NOCA also provides the Opera Aequa, Ecosocial and Fair trade certification for sugarcane industries under Bioagricert srl certification procedures.

It is the dream of Chief Minister of Bihar that the organic certified products produced in Bihar state should be traded to each & every state of the Country & also exported to the international market. Farmers, processors, traders and exporters have informed their need for organic certification. Govt. of Bihar has taken a good initiative by contracting with NOCA for their organic certification requirements.


One day Training Programme on Ideal Documentation & GPS Tagging System

NOCA had arranged One day training programme on ‘Ideal Documentation & GPS Tagging System’ on Saturday, 30th July 2011 at BIAF, Warje, Pune for its clients in Maharashtra. We, Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh (Chief Executive Officer), Dr. Jay Sakle (Certification Manager), Mr. Prashant Bansod (Business Development Manager), Mr. Sujit Kaisare (Inspection Manager) & other Inspection staff conducted the training programme.

The training programme started with the registration of the operators. All the operators registered themselves for the training programme. Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh welcomed all the operators by introducing our organisation, its working & contribution.

Dr. Jay Sakle started the training programme with the presentation on ‘Ideal Documentation’ required for the Organised Grower Group Certification & Individual Farm Certification. He divided the documentation process in two main groups, first are the farmers documents which includes Copy of Contract/Agreement, Internal Inspection report, ICS manual, Internal Organic Standards, farm diary & training schedule. The second are ICS documents which includes Application of farmers, first internal inspection report, farmer approval documents by approval committee, farmer training schedule, receipt of input, seed distribution, etc., first & second internal inspection report & purchase receipts. The session was concluded with the question & answer session.

The second session started after a short tea break. In the second session, Dr. Jay Sakle delivered a short presentation on the documentation required for Individual Farm Certification. All the doubts related to the presentation were cleared by the speaker. The session continued with the introduction to Global Positioning System (GPS). He gave the presentation on the development & working of the GPS instrument (Garmin 72H). He introduced the instrument & its functioning with his presentation. There were some doubts raised by the operator regarding the use of the instrument. These were cleared by us with discussion. The session was concluded for the lunch break.

In the post lunch session, we conducted practical session for the use of the Gramin 72H instrument. During this session we divided all the clients into three groups & demonstrated the actual use of the instrument by taking the clients on field. After the demonstration, each candidate was asked to operate the instrument personally. This will help the operator to get familiar with the instrument.

After the practical session, the operators were demonstrated the process to enter the latitude & longitude details for the farm by logging into their account on Trace net. All the other doubts & queries related to Trace net were entertained & cleared by discussion.

The training session was concluded by giving vote of thanks to the operators for their presence for the training program

We, Dr. Jay Sakle (Certification Manager), Mr. Sujit Kaisare (Inspection Manager) & Mr. Balasaheb Khemnar (Organic Inspector) conducted the training programme.

The training programme started with the registration of the operators. There were around 30 operators from various organisations present for the training programme. Mr. Balasaheb Khemnar welcomed all the operators by introducing our organisation, its working & contribution.

BioFach India 2010

BioFach was organized in Mumbai, India between 7th Dec. & 9th Dec. 2010. The idea behind BioFach is to bring the entire organic world under one roof for the provision of organic products to the consumers. It creates an international platform for various stake holders which include organic producers, processors, traders, input manufacturers, etc.

NOCA had participated as an exhibitor in BioFach, India 2010 held in Mumbai. The organic sellers & buyers all over the world had shown their active presence during the exhibition. Our representatives were present to entertain the visitors by providing information regarding our organization, its working & future perspectives. Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh, Chief Executive Officer & Mr. Prashant Bansod, Business Development Manager shared their knowledge with the delegates from Saudi Arabia, China, Thailand, Hong-Kong & other countries and cleared the doubts raised by them.

Not only the private organizations but also the Government departments representing various states had shown their presence. It includes APEDA, Spice Board of India, Govt. of Harayana, Govt. of Sikkim, Govt. of Nagaland, Govt. of Karnataka, Govt. of Kerala & others. They shared their knowledge regarding their contribution to the organic agriculture. BioFach had arranged various seminars & presentations regarding production, processing, trading & handling of the organic products to create awareness among the producers & consumers. BioFach aims at creating market to the local producers & processors. NOCA has witnessed a very good response at BioFach, India 2010 & is receiving enquiries which are being converted into organic business.


Operators Meet

Natural Organic Certification Association, Pune had arranged “Operators Meet” on 2nd May, 2010 at Indore.
This meeting was arranged specifically for the existing operators who are engaged in ICS project of cotton production. All together 53 Operators were present from various districts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat states. At the outset of the need towards clean & GMO free cotton cultivation, the operators were trained in ‘GMO-free’ package of practices of organic cotton. The guidelines on the above subject were also distributed to the operators.

Mr Sanjay Deshmukh CEO of NOCA gave presentation on The Way ahead-NOCA Services. Training programme was conducted by Mr Dilip Dhaker & Mr Sachin Lambe for strengthening the operators need.

For NOCA officials it was a learning experience & useful in upgrading the system overall. Interaction that took place was valuable in various ways to solve their genuine problems.

It was joyous moment for all to have face to face interaction with all concerned officials together & was equally useful to all.
